About the Knights of da Gama
Could you love and serve your God more?
Could you help your parish and local community more?
Would you enjoy a more active social life?
Would you like to combine all three?
The Catholic Order of the Knights of da Gama is a brotherhood whose aim is to encourage its members to be better Christians, who, by their action and example, will contribute to the spread of the Kingdom of Christ on earth.
It does this by a programme of spiritual, social and charitable works involving the members and their families. In a sense, therefore, it has something in common with the major service organisations, but differs from them in its spiritual values and its use of heraldic ritual and symbolism based on the medieval orders of chivalry. It does not compete in any way with other organisations within the Church, but is complementary to them.
Membership is open to all Catholic men who actively practice their Faith, are in full communion with the Church, who are prepared to uphold the aims and traditions of the Order and are willing to take their place in the work of the Lay Apostolate.
"The Order is registered as a non-profit organisation, in terms of the Non Profit Organisations Act No. 71 of 1997. This Act replaced the Fund Raising Act of 1978. An important consequence of this status, is that the Order is exempt from various forms of taxation, such as income tax & transfer duty."
Seal of the Catholic Order of the Knights of da Gama
UT OMNES UNUM SINT
"That all may be one"
The very essence of our Order is unity, nurtured by a spirit of fraternity to assure the continued stability and vitality of every council. This spirit of fraternity requires constant nourishment, for if a body is not fed, it soon withers and dies. The Catholic Order of the Knights of da Gama in this country is dedicated to God and country. As the motto of South Africa is "Unity is Strength", it is perhaps not a coincidence that the Order's own motto is: "Ut omnes unum sint", "That all may be one".
Seal of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights
UBI CARITAS ET AMOR
"Where there is charity and love there is God."
We believe that the privilege of Knighthood confers upon a Catholic man an extra responsibility in the Apostolate of Christ's Church. We record our determination as individual Orders within the International Alliance to coÂoperate in achieving the following aims:
To bring the message of Christ to all people.
To give loyalty and support in every way possible to our Holy Father The Pope and all Bishops, Priests and Religious throughout the world.
To use our individual and joint influence to eliminate injustice from society.
To co-operate with other Catholic international organisations and the Pontifical Council for the Laity to advance the Christian tray of life.
To extend the vision of Rev Father Michael McGivney by assisting each Member Order to progress and grow and by promoting the establishment of new Orders of Catholic Knights.
To strengthen our individual and distinct Member Orders by corporate action and to strive to deepen the faith of members of the Alliance and all Catholics in general by encouraging their active and generous participation in the Life and Mission of the Church.
To pursue these aims by uniting all our brothers throughout the world in prayer.
